Former Iran Hostages to Get Payments

Another hidden little gem in the recent omnibus spending bill signed by President Obama included this piece allowing the former hostages to receive payments of up to $4.4M.  The payments will not come from Iran, but rather from monies captured from banks that had previously done business in circumvention of sanctions against Iran.  This is pretty confusing when you think about it.  Iran isn't really paying them.  It is part of the federal budget.  It is pretty hard to see how this is not really an around about way for US tax payers to be ultimately paying these hostages.  Just a strange strange story.
